Sluggo Takes It at Hastings Park on September 4th….

•September 6, 2011 • Leave a Comment

Riding his 20th year anniversary edition, Sluggo showed he’s still got it as he slayed Hastings Park on Saturday to snatch up the competition’s $1000 cash prize. As the MC said, that park was ripped up like it never had been before, with every rider killin it in the gorgeous summer sunshine, making the judge’s jobs pretty tough.

Gotta love Vancouver.

RDS Best Trick Contest in North Van

•September 20, 2010 • Leave a Comment

On Sunday, August 29, RDS had a Block Party on Lonsdale, which included a Best Trick Comp and a performance my Moka Only ( although since most people scattered after the comp, he was debating performing, so we left too – which sucked cuz we were really hoping to catch him- we love you Moka!)

There were cash prizes up for grabs, a free bbq, sweet beats, sunshine, as much au gratis coca cola as you could handle, and some sick tricks being blasted off by the competitors. Check out a few highlights.

Much love.

Back Alley Longboard Action

•August 31, 2010 • Leave a Comment

I love my new home….have I mentioned that before? (only a million times) but North Vancouver just rocks in soooo many ways. Another one of those ways is that every street off Lower Lonsdale has a back alley!!! How awesome is that? And my back alley just happens to be one of the the more fun alleys to ride. My pal, Danny Robbins, was in agreement after he stopped by and got his shred on….old school longboard styles all the way.

Summer’s fading fast, but there’s still plenty of time to skate here in Van before we bust out the snowboards. Hope to see ya around.

Peace

More From Seylynn

Check this guy out. He’s been skating this park for 30 years. His name is Colin Yarrow – he’s a BC boy, ex pro snowboarder, fashion designer, entrepreneur, and general wunderkind. He’s our pal, and we are so stoked to be able to get some pics of him ripping. This was a very short session, but look back for more from Colin in the future. Old school. Check it out.

There was just one other shredder at Seylynn at the time, and we know him only as Josh. He rips, and let us take a snap of him. Here he is.

Hope everyone is enjoying their summer.

Peace

Park Profile – Seylynn Park, North Van

•August 13, 2010 • Leave a Comment

As you may know, ShredEye has recently relocated to beautiful, and I’m not just sayin’ that, North Vancouver, British Columbia. Along with already meeting so many cool shredders of all sorts, we have also had the privilege to be shown some amazing shred spots. Seylynn Park is another one of those gems. Built in 1978 with the intent to be skate able by all levels of riders, this park is one of the oldest still around in Canada. Nestled by the river, Seylynn consists solely of a long concrete snake, that drops into a bowl. It’s got charm and character, and while it is only a couple of kilometres from the main street, Lonsdale,  like most everywhere in North Van, you still feel connected to nature. What a great little spot.

Slip ‘n Slide at Arduum

•July 24, 2010 • Leave a Comment

Shredeye tagged along with the North Shore’s COVE Bikes photographer, Stephen McCabe, for the Arduum Race practice day, out in Mission, B.C. Arduum is native for ‘steep’, and anyone who has ever downhill biked in B.C. will know that is no understatement.

The general consensus from the riders was that the runs were ‘snotty, slippery, steep’ and even ‘scary’, but that didn’t stop these boys and girls from shredding like it was race day. Sounds like ‘ ahhh!’, ’ fu@k!’ , and ‘rider down’ were ringing through the  forest on a regular basis, but with rippers like No. 1 Pro Dan Skogland setting the standards so freakin high, there wasn’t much slowing down going on over the slick roots, rocks, and gnarl at the great Arduum.

Race day is Sunday, June 20, so  if you happen to be near Mission, be sure to check it out….and don’t let a little rain stop ya.

North Van Represent

Lonsdale Skatepark in North Vancouver , BC was likely the hottest spot in town today –  there seemed to be a chilly ass wind whipping around everywhere else. But not only that…ShredEye wandered up in the mid afternoon to this street park expecting emptiness, but instead happily found a few local shreds raising the temperature. Never mind the snow on the mountains..the west coast is hot, baby.

When Alexi isn’t busy serving up tricks in the park, you can catch him at Brazza serving you the perfect latte, proving this kid is multi talented.

Seriously.

It’s a damn good thing there is a fire hydrant.

Check out more from these guys and others this Saturday, May 8 at Lonsdale for CityFest – a youth sponsered event with a skate comp, band showcase, art show, free bbq and photo booth. See ya there!

Peace

Spring In VanCity

Vancouver, British Columbia is by far one of shredEye‘s favourite cities in the world. You’ve got mountains, you have ocean, you can snowboard and skateboard in the same day, and the people tend to rock.   Temperatures there are starting to rise, and with the sun trying hard to come out and brighten up some of the grey this evening, the skaters seemed happy and warm.
